Swedana

Swedana is a sudation therapy that induces controlled sweating through the application of heat, typically using steam, herbal decoctions, or fomentation packs. It is usually administered after Snehan (oleation) to enhance detoxification and therapeutic efficacy. Modern research suggests that Swedana exerts multiple physiological benefits through thermoregulation, improved circulation, and neuro-endocrine modulation. The heat and steam from Swedana dilate blood vessels, increase tissue perfusion, and improve microcirculation, facilitating the removal of metabolic wastes and toxins. The therapy also relaxes muscles and soft tissues, reduces stiffness, and promotes flexibility.

The warmth and bioavailability of the medicated ghee or oil help to soften accumulated toxins (Ama), lubricate the mucosal lining, and improve local circulation in the digestive organs. The bioactive constituents of the medicated substance exert anti-inflammatory, digestive, and rejuvenative effects. Gentle internal absorption and systemic circulation of the medicated oil promote calming of the mind, sensory balance, and overall relaxation. Annalepana supports digestive health, reduces dryness, improves appetite, enhances nutrient assimilation, and promotes clarity and calmness of the mind and senses.
